Chief Judicial Magistrate
Mr. Al Asad Md. Mahmudul Islam has joined as the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Manikganj on 1 December, 2025. He has been serving as a Judge in the District Judiciary from 22 May, 2008 and has held various positions at Thakurgaon, Rangpur, Sylhet and Dhaka District Courts. He also served as an Assistant Director and subsequently as a Deputy Director of the Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI), which is the main TRAINING arm of the Government for the Training of the Judges, Magistrates, Public Prosecutors and Court Support Staff.
In his academic career, he did his schooling in his hometown Nilphamari, Intermediate education at Dhaka College and Bachelor of Laws and Master of Laws at the Faculty of Law, University of Dhaka. He was awarded with the British Government’s prestigious Chevening Scholarship Award in 2013 and he completed his 2nd LLM in International Law: Crime, Justice and Human Rights with merit from University of Birmingham.
As a judge and judicial educator, he has also been awarded with several international scholarships and fellowships for participating in various international trainings and study programmes. He is a fellow of Commonwealth Judicial Education Institute (CJEI) based in Canada, International Training Centre of the ILO based in Italy, Japan Government’s Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Singapore Foreign Ministry’s Singapore Cooperation Programme and US based Amicus ALJ.
Mr. Islam has special expertise on Judicial Education, ADR, Case Management, Adjudication of cases related to cyber-crime, money laundering, terrorism, and gender based violation.
